Summer has its challenges to deal with when it comes to our hair, skin and makeup. The good news is that this summer’s looks are all about being simple, easy and quick. Wash your hair on the go, do your makeup in five minutes… do what you need to do quickly and simply in order to shine in the sun.
Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate
Summer skin looks best when it’s moisturized and dewy fresh, so make sure to hydrate your skin. For best results, use a body cream directly after the shower to trap in the moisture; be sure to pat yourself dry as opposed to aggressively toweling yourself dry. Look for a non-greasy cream that moisturizes easily into your skin for all-over body hydration. Don’t forget to moisturize the face either; opt for a cream that offers multivitamins and barrier repair.
Be a Bronze Babe
The trend for summer 2012 is to use a light hand with the makeup but to have an overall bronze goddess look to give you a glow. If you have a genuine light tan, don’t cover it with makeup but allow it to shine unencumbered and natural. Otherwise, choose the right bronzer for you, whether it’s powder, cream or a gel. Guerlian have a great range of bronzers.
Update Your Look
If you’re guilty of not updating your makeup routine for a few years, update it this summer. Aim to scale down your makeup routine to five minutes or less. Put aside all those products that you don’t need to concentrate on the few that you do; sometimes less really is more. If you haven’t ever had professional advice on your beauty routine, now is the time to visit a makeup artist. Just be sure to tell them you want your five-minute makeup routine.
Banish Dark Circles
There’s nothing that ruins a fresh-faced look more than dark circles under the eyes. True, sometimes they are hereditary but there are still some things you can do to reduce their impact. Dark circles are often worse when you’re dehydrated, as the skin cells under the eye sockets shrink, causing the blood capillaries underneath to become more prominent. Drink more water to counteract the effects. If you need a concealer, choose one that matches your skin tone and isn’t too light, otherwise you’ll suffer from raccoon eyes. Don’t forget to brush it over afterwards with bronzer to match the rest of your skin.
Avoid Drooping Hair
The key to a summer 2012 haircut is ease; if you haven’t already, update your look with a haircut that really is nothing more than wash and wear. Prepare to go casual. Summer isn’t a great time for hair with lots of product anyway; the high humidity doesn’t do hair any favours and if you need product to keep it in place, it’s not going to last for long. So avoid drooping hair and get a simple, casual hairstyle that looks great minus product no matter what the humidity.
